The Alnwick Poison Garden is pretty much what you’d think it is: a garden full of plants that can kill you (among many other things). Some of the plants are so dangerous that they have to be kept behind bars. [x]
It seemed pretty straightforward to make for myself (I think I’d need to look into finishing techniques a bit more to make them for other people). There are loads of youtube videos showing the methods, but essentially you cut it out of paper first to get the right size and symmetry, then transfer the design and cut it out of the leather. Then just soak the leather til it becomes pliable, shape it, hairdryer it, shape it some more, and as it dries it keeps the form: http://www.profounddecisions.co.uk/empire-wiki/Making_a_hardened_leather_mask
Get some leather and give it a go, it’s quite fun!
By the time I’d finished baking, I was on a bit of a sugar high so of course Breaking Bad Chocolates seemed like a brilliant idea, never mind that I already had half a kitchen’s worth of washing up to do.
Dark chocolate with blue-tinted white chocolate filling and candyfloss-flavoured crystals.
The mini crystal cakes are dangerous in a second way: an almondy cream filling can cause the whole thing to explode when you take a bite.
And a final cake of over-the-top-ness, just because I had some candy glass left over.
It’s entirely possible I just baked the most dangerous cake for Breaking Bad. The ‘crystal meth’ is rock candy (see previous post) and while not as dangerous as the first lot I made, I’d still recommend removing the big shards before taking a bite.
The inside is a marbled blue and white two-layer cake, but you won’t get to see that until later…
I finally got around to making some Breaking Bad themed rock candy. I was going to put it on the top of a BB cake for the finale next week, but I’m afraid someone might get hurt… This stuff is like glass (tasty, tasty glass) so rather than waste it I bagged it up with a matching label I threw together, here if you want it.
I’ll try another batch if I can, and try and improve on the Todd style aquamarine tint… Otherwise I might have to stick to blue glitter for the cakes!
